About Us
Ireland's first and only new town of the modern age was created as Shannon became a leader in aviation and industry. Built in the 19060's, the town complemented Shannon International Airport and Shannon Free Zone. Today, Shannon Town has a population of 9,000 and the new town is old enough to have its own character and distinctiveness
The Airport and the Industrial Estates employ 12,500 people. They live across a wide catchment area from Limerick to Ennis including Newmarket on Fergus, Sixmilebridge, Cratloe as well as Shannon Town. With a vastly improving road network, it is now much easier to commute to Shannon for work, shopping and leisure.
The "new" town concentrated shopping and other facilities at Shannon Town Centre. Now know as SkyCourt Shannon, it is being redeveloped in accordance with an agreed master plan. The first phase has been completed at a cost of 60 million euro with leading retailers Dunnes Stores, Lidl and 60 other outlets offering a wide range of shops and services focussed on the needs of Shannon Town and its hinterland.
The development at Skycourt Shannon has the capacity to transform the local retail and service economy for the benefit of the local population, the Free Zone workforce and the people of south-east Clare.
